Choosing a pressure washer trailer rig

Pick the machine for the work, the tank for the water you'll have on site, and a chassis your truck can pull full; here is the published grid to start from.

Pick the machine first, because it decides how fast you clean. Then the tank, which decides how long you clean before you refill. Then the chassis, which has to carry that tank full behind the truck you already own.

The Universal Trailer line has five machines on its published price grid:

  • AWW-HDS5: 5 GPM at 3,500 PSI, 18 HP Vanguard gas engine, 12V diesel-fired burner, separate gas and diesel tanks.
  • AWW-HDS8: 8 GPM (3,000 or 3,500 PSI; the listings differ and the shop confirms), 25 HP Kärcher V-twin (listed with a 4-year engine warranty and 7-year pump warranty), gas and diesel tanks.
  • All American PH5035HBOF: 5 GPM at 3,500 PSI, 20 HP Honda, oil-fired burner, a 3,000 W generator on board.
  • Alkota 8405HNL: 8 GPM at 3,500 PSI, Honda GX690, built on Alkota's narrow frame.
  • Alkota 5357C: 4.7 GPM at 3,500 PSI, Kubota Z602 diesel, water up to 210°F. The trailer site tags it California-compliant.

And four chassis. The UT-CART is a pull cart with a pivoting front end and a 230-gallon tank. The UTS230 is a single 3,500 lb drop axle with 230 gallons. The UTT330 and UTT460 run tandem 3,500 lb drop axles with electric brakes and carry 330 or 460 gallons. All four are welded tubular steel, powder coated (custom colors available), with dual hose reels and a 48 by 40-1/2 inch deck. Listed options include surge brakes, 100 ft of R2 hose, a lunette eye, a 4.5-gallon detergent holder and a toolbox.

Size the tank by trigger time. At full flow, 230 gallons lasts about 46 minutes at 5 GPM and about 29 at 8 GPM. 460 gallons lasts about 92 and 57. If you can refill on site, a smaller tank does more work than its size suggests. If the site has no water at all, buy the biggest tank your truck can pull.

And check the weight. Water is about 8.34 pounds a gallon, so a full 230-gallon tank is about 1,920 pounds of water, 330 gallons about 2,750 and 460 gallons about 3,840, before the machine, frame, fuel and hose. The machine alone can be heavy; the Alkota 5357C is listed at 845 lb. Check your truck's tow rating and your hitch against the loaded weight, not the empty one.

Truck or trailer? A skid can ride on a flatbed or a truck bed instead; the shop builds truck and van mounts too, quoted on the call. A truck mount is one vehicle to park and drive. A trailer can be unhitched so the truck does other work, and a truck in the shop doesn't take the washer down with it. Off the grid, custom builds can run single, dual or triple axles, tanks up to 725 gallons, detergent and antifreeze tanks and wash-water recovery; those are quoted too.

How ordering works. The grid prices are base prices. Freight is free to anywhere in the continental US, with a fuel surcharge added by destination; Alaska and Hawaii are quoted. No payment is taken online. The shop confirms the spec with you, sends an invoice, and starts building once it's paid. Because every rig is built to order it can't be returned, so settle the spec on the call, not after delivery.

Tell us what you'll wash, where the water comes from and what you tow with. You can also price a build yourself in the rig builder. Use the form below.

What are you cleaning?

Tell us the job in your own words. A person at the counter calls you and starts with the problem. Nobody pitches a machine until we understand the job.

A dead burner, a citation, a bid due Friday. Your words.
How do we reach you? A phone or an email is enough.
A few more questions (optional)
Downtime, labor, a lost bid. A rough idea is fine.
Brand, model, age if you know it.

Here's what happens next: The Pacoima counter calls you within one business hour, or emails you if you leave no number. The call is 15 minutes. We ask what's going wrong, how you plan to pay, and who else weighs in. At the end we set a next step, or tell you straight that we're not the right shop. Nobody pitches anything until we understand the job.
