Loaders and excavators come back packed with mud around the tracks and undercarriage. Concrete trucks and tools carry a crust that gets harder every day nobody gets to it.
Packed mud takes flow to move, and the grease under it takes heat. A small cold-water machine has neither, so someone stands there for an hour per machine. Concrete comes off cleanest while it's still green, before it sets, and that takes the right product more than more pressure.
A mechanic can't see a cracked weld or a weeping seal under a layer of dirt, so small repairs turn into downtime. Rented equipment that goes back dirty can come back to you as a cleaning charge, and the crew loses the end of every shift to the wash.
The shop asks what machines you wash and how many, and whether the wash happens at the yard or on the jobsite. It asks what water and power you have at that spot, whether it's mud or concrete that's caked on, and how long a machine takes today.
On a jobsite with no water, a trailer rig carries its own: the Alkota 8405HNL puts out 8 GPM at 3500 PSI on a Honda GX690, and on the UTT460 it rides with 460 gallons and electric brakes. At the yard, the Hotsy HSS is a self-contained skid on a Kubota diesel, 5.0 to 9.5 GPM, and the Hotsy 1200 is a gas-engine hot-water machine at 4.5 to 5.6 GPM, both per the manufacturer's 2016 brochure. If it's mostly mud and no grease, a cold-water belt-drive like the Hotsy BD reaches up to 5000 PSI.
For concrete, Con-B-Gone is made to take green concrete off trucks and tools. Ripper I is the degreaser for oily iron.
